Decode resistor color bands and SMD codes

Decode resistor color bands and SMD codes, and convert between them.

Color band decoder

– 4-band, 5-band and 6-band resistors

– Tap a band on the resistor drawing to choose its color

– Shows the resistance, the tolerance and, for 6-band resistors, the temperature coefficient

– Shows the matching SMD codes

SMD decoder

– 3-digit codes (e.g. 472 = 4.7 kΩ)

– 4-digit codes (e.g. 1002 = 10 kΩ)

– EIA-96 codes (e.g. 01C = 10 kΩ)

– R notation for low values (e.g. 4R7 = 4.7 Ω)

– Shows the equivalent color bands; change a band to get the new code

Convert and calculate

– Enter a value in Ω, kΩ or MΩ to get its color bands, its 3-digit, 4-digit and EIA-96 codes, and the nearest E24 standard value

– Enter an SMD code to get its value

– Unit conversions and scientific notation

Compare

– The same value shown side by side as a through-hole resistor and an SMD resistor

Learn

– Color tables for digits, multipliers, tolerance and temperature coefficient

– Short explanations of SMD codes, EIA-96 and unit prefixes

Favorites

– Save resistors with a name and notes, stored on your device

You can copy or share any result. All calculations work offline.

Note: EIA-96 codes only exist for E96 series values. For other values, the app shows the code of the nearest E96 value.
